Biss names Geer to Environment Board
June 6, 2025
Mayor Daniel Biss will ask the City Council Monday to approve his appointment of Gennifer Geer, who came in second in April’s 3rd Ward aldermanic race, to Evanston’s Environment Board.
Geer won 31.7% of the vote, falling short of Ald. Shawn Iles’ 38.4%, but finished ahead of John Kennedy, who earned just under 30%.
Biss endorsed Iles just days before the election.
By far the youngest candidate in the race, Geer, 27, ran on her youth and the need to protect the environment for future generations, making preservation of the lakefront and increasing public transit access key issues.
In a statement Friday, Geer said, “Preserving our environment and fighting climate change has always motivated me, and I’m looking forward to helping keep Evanston at the forefront of local solutions.”
She said he was excited about the appointment to fill the vacancy on a board that is increasingly made up of young Evanstonians.
Geer is a political consultant and an outreach coordinator at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. She’s also the treasurer of the Democratic Party of Evanston and is a graduate of Northwestern University.
