Bossier Police Jury holds public hearing on Amazon Data Center

BOSSIER PARISH, La. (KSLA) – Wednesday, Mar. 18, the Bossier Parish Police Jury held a public hearing on the final property allocation for the incoming $6 billion Amazon data center.

According to the jury, the data center will be placed on a 1.3 million square foot campus.

The hearing resulted in the jury’s unanimous approval of the final plat for the data center campus.

WATER USAGE

Questions regarding water usage are frequently asked in relation to data centers.

According to Stack Infrastructure, the center will utilize 57 million gallons of water per year and is responsible for the construction costs for the center’s infrastructure upgrade from Bossier City.

Bossier City will provide up to 13.5 million gallons of water to the center per day, and the center will pay the construction costs for pipes to transmit the water from Bossier City.

Stack also says wastewater from the center will be treated on-site and transported to a facility that specializes in disposing of wastewater.

Domestic wastewater, including sinks and toilets, will be handled by the Town of Benton.

ELECTRICITY AND STANDARD OF LIVING

Rates for electricity will not rise due to datacenter power needs, says AEP SWEPCO.

Stack and SWEPCO state the data center will pay for any new and needed electricity transmission infrastructure.

DATA CENTERS IN THE ARKLATEX:

The data center will comply with Bossier Parish noise regulations, according to confirmation from Bossier Parish Police Jury.

JOBS

As construction for the data center begins, new jobs are expected to arrive as well.

According to Stack Infrastructure, 500 construction jobs are expected. In addition, 270 permanent jobs, paying 150% of the state’s annual pay average, will be created.
