Brady takes fight to Reynolds by launching Birmingham doc on streaming rival
April 10, 2025
Anything you can do, we can do better.
That appears to be the message coming from Birmingham City as the League One club announced the launch of a behind-the-scenes documentary of their own.
Camera crews have tagged along with first-team players, coaches as well as key ownership figures from pre-season all the way through to securing promotion back to the Championship.
One of these key ownership figures is indeed legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady, who holds a minority stake in the Blues.
Steven Knight, the creator of the BBC hit series Peaky Blinders and a lifelong Birmingham City supporter, will serve as the executive producer.
In the release, it states that along with covering all facets of the day-to-day operations at the club, the documentary will “explore the unique cultural heritage of Birmingham City and a supporter base who have remained loyal despite a sustained period without success or silverware”.
The documentary will also be launched on streaming platform Amazon Prime and will be released this summer.
The announcement of Birmingham’s upcoming documentary is sure to stoke the flames of rivalry between the Blues and fellow League One rivals Wrexham, who are owned by Hollywood duo Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.
That’s because of the Welsh side’s documentary series titled ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, which was first released in August 2022.
Three seasons of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ have been released, with each showcasing the inner workings of the club as well as shining a light on the city’s rich history and its many members of the community.
A fourth season of the show has also been locked in, with the first episodes to premiere on May 15 on FX and Disney+.
The show has been a tremendous success and has won eight Creative Arts Emmy’s.
Although Wrexham may face a stiff challenge from Birmingham City to be the leader in documentaries of an EFL club, it is the Blues who lead the way in on-pitch matters.
Chris Davies’ side secured an instant promotion to the Championship last Tuesday thanks to a 2-1 win away against Peterborough United.
The win took them 14 points clear of second-placed Wrexham and the gap could widen to 17 points should the Blues win their game in hand.
Birmingham are also unbeaten in fixtures against Wrexham this season.
Brady, McElhenney and even football great David Beckham were in attendance for the first meeting between the two sides this season on September 16, which Birmingham won 3-1.
Wrexham saved some face in the reverse fixture at The Racecourse as it ended 1-1.
It could prove to be a very valuable point for Phil Parkinson’s side as automatic promotion is in their hands.
With five games remaining, Wrexham are on 81 points, three ahead of third-placed Wycombe Wanderers.
Wrexham will look to take another giant stride towards promotion when they travel to play Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
