Bright Power Drives Decarbonization: Measuring 20 Years of Impact on the Built Environment

667M Lbs of CO2 reduced from the environment which is equivalent to 71,000 cars off the road
NEW YORK, March 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Since its inception 20 years ago, Bright Power’s mission has been to accelerate the transition to a zero-carbon future by providing energy and carbon reduction solutions in buildings. Today they proudly announce, to date, they have reduced 667M Lbs of CO2 from the environment, the equivalent of removing 71,000 cars from the road or planting five million new trees.
Bright Power is working toward a world where efficient, resilient, and healthy buildings are accessible to all. Over the past 20 years, Bright Power has helped transform the built environment by optimizing building performance, identifying energy savings, and empowering owners and developers with smarter energy and capital plans. Their work includes:
- Providing data-driven energy and carbon reduction consulting for over 2.9 billion square feet of real estate—more than 10% of the apartments in the U.S.
- Conducting energy audits for over 2,500 properties, offering strategic guidance on capital planning and cost-effective energy improvements
- Helping building owners collectively save $285 million in utility costs
- Supporting 559 projects with green building design and certification services, assisting developers in achieving EGC, LEED, Energy Star, and Passive House certifications
- Conducting solar feasibility studies that have led to the generation of 626 MWh of solar electricity
Over the next 30 years, Bright Power projects their work will help reduce nearly 900 million pounds of CO₂e emissions—the equivalent of eliminating one year of energy use for 54,824 homes.
“At Bright Power, we know that resilient and healthy buildings are not just about reducing carbon emissions—they’re about protecting people, strengthening communities, and ensuring long-term financial and operational stability,” says Andrea Mancino, CEO of Bright Power. “Over the past 20 years, we’ve worked alongside our partners to drive real impact that reduces costs, improves efficiency and mitigates risks from climate change and extreme weather. As we look ahead, our commitment remains the same: to make equitable decarbonization the default choice for lenders, agencies, building developers, and operators working in the multifamily housing sector.”
In 2025 and beyond, an area of focus for Bright Power will be helping NYC’s buildings achieve Local Law 97 compliance through comprehensive energy audits, emissions reporting, and several other compliance services. Local Law 97 requires many NYC buildings to cut emissions by 40% by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050. About 50,000 buildings must follow this rule, with the first reporting deadline in 2025. This means building owners and operators need support now to meet the law’s requirements and find long-term solutions to lower their carbon emissions.
As more buildings move toward electrification, Bright Power is committed to providing energy expertise and identifying optimal solutions that provide real estate owners and developers with long-term ROI. On the new construction side, Bright Power will continue working with developers and architects to create high performance buildings that are both comfortable and energy-efficient. Nationally, Bright Power is also supporting real estate portfolios with energy benchmarking, compliance, and energy analysis.
