Cannabis consumers’ rights are under attack across the US!

In Republican-led states like Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, and Ohio, lawmakers are pushing to recriminalize marijuana and those who consume it. In Democrat-led states like California, Maryland, Michigan, and New Jersey, lawmakers are seeking to drastically hike marijuana taxes.

NORML is fighting against these efforts, but we need your help. It’s time for the cannabis community to rise up and make their voices heard. Your lawmakers need to hear that responsible cannabis consumers are neither criminals nor ATM machines.

With your support, we can defeat these dangerous and misguided proposals. In some cases, we already have. 

In South Dakota, NORML worked to defeat legislation to repeal the state’s voter-approved medical cannabis access law. 

In Montana, we pushed back against legislation imposing a 15% THC potency limit. The bill has now been tabled.

In Virginia, we defeated multiple bills that threatened consumers’ employment rights. We also defeated a bill to strip away consumers’ constitutional protections to be free from warrantless searches.

Still, there remains much more for us to do. 

In Ohio, Senate Republicans just voted to gut the legalization law approved by voters in 2023, eliminating many consumer protections. One of the bill’s provisions makes it illegal for an Ohioan to purchase legal cannabis products from other states. Another criminalizes the sharing of cannabis between adults. 

In Nebraska, lawmakers are attempting to repeal patients’ voter-approved access to botanical cannabis. 

In New Jersey, lawmakers are seeking to drastically raise taxes on cannabis products and jail consumers who purchase marijuana from non-state licensed retailers. 

Let’s be clear. Public support for legalizing marijuana remains as strong as ever. Nonetheless, our hard-fought gains are under siege from legislators who believe that they can thwart the will of the voters’ and not pay a political price. Let’s show them that they are wrong!
