A couple who were caught dealing cannabis have been give suspended prison sentences.

Police found up to £5,000 worth of the class B drug and almost £3,000 in cash when they raided the North Kenton home of Michael Coyle, 38, and Lindsay Mudie, 47, in June 2021, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

Both admitted possessing cannabis with intent to supply and were jailed for six months, suspended for a year.

Coyle, a bricklayer, was also ordered to complete 100 hours unpaid work and pay £1,200 court costs at a rate of £100 a month.

The court heard police executed a search warrant at their home on Hillsview Avenue in the early hours of 10 June 2021.

They discovered about 743g (1lb 10oz) of cannabis which had been divided into saleable portions and was worth between £3,945 and £5,325, the court heard.

Almost £3,000 in cash and a list of debtors were also seized.

In mitigation, the court heard both were selling cannabis to fund their own addictions to the drug, but they had taken steps to get clean.
