Cannabis facility showcases manufacturing process to elected officials

CHILI, N.Y. – A local cannabis processing facility opened its doors to local elected officials, showcasing its manufacturing process.
Nowave’s 32,000-square-foot facility in the town of Chili produces edibles, gummies and vapes for various brands.
Assemblyman Harry Bronson, whose district includes the facility, was among the officials who toured the site. Bronson said the legislation allowing adult recreational use of marijuana aimed to create an equitable and inclusive industry.
“This is a company that has taken that very seriously,” said Bronson. “The other thing is they take very seriously the safety of their product and making sure that they educate consumers on how to use their product responsibly.”
Nowave doesn’t grow cannabis but purchases raw materials from New York State farmers. Compliance Officer Brian Lane explained that these materials are converted into THC.
“We put them into a different product type,” Lane said. “So, gummies, for instance, it’s a fruit pectin-based recipe, gluten free, and vegan, because we want to be healthy for people.”
Production workers at the facility package gummies, often packing an average of 10,000 units per day.
Lane highlighted the benefits of being in upstate New York, noting the access to around 200 licensed farmers.
“In general upstate, it allows us the cost of living, and the inputs and everything are a little bit more reasonable, a little more efficient than just being downstate in the city where things cost a little bit more,” Lane said.
Lane also mentioned Rochester’s advantage of having several processors in the area.
“People are really loyal to New York, and a lot of New York State brands recognize Rochester has some facilities that we can move into,” he said.
