PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Firefighters put out a two-alarm fire at a cannabis grow operation on Saturday in Estacada, Clackamas Fire officials said.
A firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion, however, there were no other injuries reported.
The fire was first reported just before 11 a.m. at a building on Northwest Noble Drive in the Estacada Industrial Park.
Firefighters started fighting the blaze, but after going inside crews faced “extreme heat and zero-visibility smoke down to the floor.” They called a second alarm out to bring in more crews and resources.
The building had pressurized CO2 containers, liquid and granular fertilizers, storage tanks larger than 200 gallons, and other HAZMAT items. Portland General Electric was also called out to secure power to the building, as cannabis grow ops use a lot of electricity.
Clackamas Fire evacuated the neighboring businesses as a precaution.
“Full extinguishment was achieved after firefighters crawled beneath the grow racks and reached the seat of the fire approximately 45 feet inside the structure,” Clackamas Fire said.
