Cannabis grower woken by police in morning raid
A cannabis grower woke to find police officers raiding his home, with the search discovering about 190 plants in the property.
Albjon Proi, 27, was fast asleep when Nottinghamshire Police executed a warrant at his home in Brinkhill Crescent, Clifton.
The force said the address was highlighted as potentially housing a cannabis grow, leading to the raid on the morning of 8 October.
Proi appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to producing cannabis and was sentenced to two years and four months in prison.
Nottinghamshire PoliceOfficers rammed their way through Proi’s front door during the raid.
The force said one set of officers woke and detained Proi, while the rest of the team spread out to search the property.
Cannabis plants were found growing across three rooms, each of which had been fitted with fans and other growing equipment.
Police said electricity was also found to have been dangerously bypassed across the home.
All the drugs and growing equipment were removed from the property and Proi was arrested at the scene.
Insp Steve Dalby, from Nottinghamshire Police, said Proi “only realised what was happening when we were standing right next to him”.
He added that cannabis farms “bring nothing but trouble to communities” and pose “a very real and very dangerous fire risk”.
