Cannabis plants worth nearly £1m have been found in a property in Dumfries town centre, according to Police Scotland.

The discovery was made by officers who searched the building in Friars Vennel on Sunday afternoon.

Police Scotland said the plants had an estimated street value of £954,000 and described it as a “very significant recovery”.

A 47-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the find and is due to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

Det Sgt Allister Queen said: “This is a very significant recovery and an example of our efforts to disrupt the activity of illegal drugs in Scotland.

“Drugs cause misery in our communities and the public has an important role to play in helping Police Scotland target those responsible for the cultivation, supply and sale of illegal substances”
