NORWALK, CT — Over a pound of cannabis products were found after officers executed a fifth search and seizure warrant at a Norwalk smoke shop Tuesday, according to police.
In a news release, Police Lt. Tomasz Podgorski said officers with the department’s Special Services Division executed a search and seizure warrant at R and R Convenience and Smoke on Main Street.
According to Podgorski, Tuesday’s investigation marked the the fifth search warrant executed at the smoke shop, with each instance resulting in an arrest.
Due to prior arrests, the store’s license to sell vape products is currently suspended pending review, according to Podgorski.
During the search, officers found approximately 1.5 pounds of cannabis products, including pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes, containers and bags filled with marijuana and THC edibles, according to Podgorski.
Podgorski noted a majority of these items were found inside a trap door hidden within the store.
Officers also seized several bottles of nitrous oxide, Podgorski said.
“The [U.S. Food and Drug Administration] warns that inhaling nitrous oxide from canisters, tanks, or chargers, which is often marketed as food-grade propellants for whipped cream, can lead to serious health risks, including death,” Podgorski said in a news release.
As a result of the investigation, Mohamed Anam, 27, of Bronx, N.Y., was arrested. He was charged with violation of restricted substances, sale of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
He was released on a promise to appear in court next month, according to Podgorski.
The search was part of an ongoing investigation into smoke shops in Norwalk suspected of selling cannabis and cannabis products without a valid cannabis license, Podgorski said.
According to Podgorski, it is illegal under Connecticut law to sell products containing a THC concentration greater than 0.3 percent without a state-issued license, as well as to sell marijuana outside of a licensed dispensary.
“The Norwalk Police Department remains committed to investigating and addressing businesses that operate outside of the law,” Podgorski said, “particularly when those activities pose risks to public health and safety.”
