Caring for Creatures’ new dog building protects animals and the environment

PALMYRA, Va. (WVIR) – Caring for Creatures animal sanctuary is building a new dog building out of recycled materials.

The building is made of 90% recycled materials, including 25,000 plastic bottles. Stephanie Cimillo, a CFC board member, says the decision to choose this kind of building was easy.

“I myself am very passionate about the environment and animal rescue, so it seemed like the perfect combination for us to go forward with this type of technology,” Cimillo said.

Cimello and CFC founder Mary Birkholtz met with an architect three and a half years ago to start brain storming the project. Now, after years of planning, fundraising, and waiting, their ideas are being built in front of them.

“The people that support us are so excited because they love the idea of having a dog facility and we have such an amazing group of volunteers and supporters so there’s huge excitement in the air about this design,” Cimillo said. “Because it’s so unique I think it’s generated interest beyond the CFC community.”
