Celebrity Moms Who Use Cannabis
January 26, 2025
Being a mom means having to come up with a pretty big toolbox full of problem-solving skills, coping mechanisms, and self-care strategies. Everyone’s toolbox looks different, but for a growing number of moms cannabis takes up a slot.
Since its legalization in many parts of the country, more and more moms are integrating marijuana into their self-care regimen, saying it helps them not only relax and deal with everything on their plates but also helps them be better parents.
Celebrities, while having a boatload of privilege the rest of us don’t, also have stressors us normal folks don’t have, like being trailed by paparazzi or dealing with hate from tons of anonymous internet trolls on the regular. So it should come as no surprise that moms from Megan Fox to Whoopi Goldberg need a way to unwind, switch off their anxiety, and enjoy the moment.
Though weed is riding a wave of popularity since it became legal in many states, cannabis is still seen as a rather unorthodox mom-tool. But after numerous scientific studies proving its effectiveness as therapy for a number of mental health disorders and for everyday stress as well, more and more moms are jumping on the weed wagon, and more and more celebrity moms are using their platforms not only for legalization advocacy but as a means to normalize its use.
From Kristen Bell to Lisa Bonet, here are a handful of celeb moms who are out and proud about their cannabis use.

F— it.’ I become literally a kid.”

Hollywood legend and mom of three Jane Fonda revealed she uses weed medicinally, saying, “I use a [weed] pen that limits how many doses you get, which is way better than taking sleeping pills… But I was never majorly into pot, to tell you the truth. However, I have osteoarthritis, so things that help with pain and inflammation are good.”
-

Anne Hathaway is a stoner mom, but she prefers to keep it on the DL. Andy Cohen asked the mom of two during an appearance on his show, “There was a rumor in 2015 that a photo exists and was circulating of you with a massive blunt. On a scale of one to 10, how big of a stoner is Anne Hathaway?”
The actress cheekily replied, “I’m not a little one, but here’s the thing, here’s the thing, though. I’m a parent and I don’t feel like getting arrested, so I’m gonna say ‘zero.’ I guess I should have just pleaded the fifth on that one. But I don’t have a card or anything.” -
Kristen Dunst
Mom of two Kristen Dunst has made her progressive opinion on marijuana known.
She told Britain’s Live, “I do like weed. I have a different outlook on marijuana than America does,” continuing, “I’ve never been a major smoker, but I think America’s view on weed is ridiculous. I mean — are you kidding me? If everyone smoked weed, the world would be a better place. I’m not talking about being stoned all day, though. I think if it’s not used properly, it can hamper your creativity and close you up inside.”

Alanis Morissette
The Canadian-born Grammy winner and mom of three has said that cannabis gives her a creativity boost. “I’ve often felt telepathic and receptive to inexplicable messages my whole life. I can stave those off when I’m not high,” she told High Times. “When I’m high — well, they come in and there’s less of a veil, so to speak. So if ever I need some clarity… or a quantum leap in terms of writing something, it’s a quick way for me to get to it.”
She’s also been open about her struggles with post-partum depression, telling People, “I’m used to being the Rock of Gibraltar, providing, protecting and maneuvering,” she said. “It had me question everything. I’ve known myself to be a really incredible decision-maker and a leader that people can rely on. [Now] I can barely decide what to eat for dinner.”

“[My mom] showed up at my house, literally drove in her little tennis outfit and brought me a little container and just left it on my kitchen table,” Theron told Jimmy Fallon in 2018. “She was like, ‘So I got some blueberry-covered chocolate ones, but if you want it faster-acting, you should go for the mints. Those you suck, and it works faster.’” We love a supportive stoner mom.

Frances McDormand
Back in 2003, High Times spoke with Frances McDormand about smoking weed, to which she talked about how she doesn’t understand the stigma around it.
“I’m a recreational pot smoker. Because it’s not a constant in my life, I don’t say it should be made legal so it’s more available. But from a medical point of view… why should [patients] have to look too hard for the thing that makes them better? So from that point of view, it’s like,‘Please, what is the problem?’” the mom of one said.
