Martin Hulst and his wife, Amanda Hulst, each face multiple drug charges after 12 students reported being ill after ingesting a candy-like substance.

MOORHEAD, Minn. — A Moorhead man is accused of having his daughter sell THC vape cartridges to middle school students after several children became ill last week.

Martin Hulst, 40, and his wife, Amanda Hulst, 43, each face multiple drug charges after 12 students reported to the nurse’s office at Horizon Middle School East Campus in Moorhead on May 18 with various symptoms linked to potential impairment.

According to court documents, a Moorhead Police School Resource Officer saw several students showing slow movements, lethargy, bloodshot/watery eyes with a glazed appearance, elevated heart rates and vomiting. Two students were transported to a nearby emergency room by ambulance, including one who reportedly fell before getting to the nurse’s office.

One of the students was taken to a walk-in clinic and tested positive for THC/marijuana. The resource officer later found out that the student had ingested a candy-like substance that they had gotten from another student, who was the daughter of Martin and Amanda Hulst. The criminal complaint says that law enforcement later learned that more than 12 people had purchased cartridges from Martin Hurst’s daughter, and that she gave the money from the sales to her father.

A search warrant was executed the following day at Martin and Amanda Hulst’s home, and large amounts of THC products were found, as well as about 604.4 grams of psilocybin mushrooms. Law enforcement says they also found a red shirt in the basement that matched the sweater seen worn by their child the day the students became sick.

In the pocket of the shirt were items that matched the description of the substance given to the students the previous day. The substance was later determined to be cannabis-infused and, according to court documents, contained 300mg per strip.
