About CYMG

The Children and Youth Major Group to the UN Environment Programme (CYMG) serves as the formal youth engagement mechanism to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It is a globally recognized platform that represents youth networks, organizations, and individuals committed to addressing the triple planetary crisis—climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.

CYMG plays a central role in advocating for the inclusion, empowerment, and meaningful participation of young people in global environmental governance. By representing youth voices in UNEP processes, CYMG ensures that young people contribute actively to shaping the environmental dimension of the sustainable development agenda.

Through campaigns, consultations, and advocacy initiatives, CYMG brings together young changemakers from all regions, amplifying their perspectives and driving action towards a just, inclusive, and sustainable world.

Open Positions

CYMG is currently recruiting for the following volunteer roles within its Communications Team:

1. Graphic Design Officer

The Graphic Design Officer will be responsible for creating compelling visual content that strengthens CYMG’s outreach and communications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design high-quality graphics, infographics, and other visual materials to support CYMG campaigns, events, and publications.
  • Collaborate closely with the Social Media and Communications teams to transform ideas into effective visual storytelling.
  • Maintain brand consistency and ensure accessibility in all visual outputs.
  • Use design tools such as Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, or Figma. Familiarity with these platforms is highly desirable.

This position requires creativity, attention to detail, and an understanding of design as a communication tool for advocacy and awareness.

2. Community Engagement Lead

The Community Engagement Lead will support CYMG’s mission by building and maintaining an active, inclusive, and supportive community of members worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work under the Communications Lead to design and implement strategies that foster meaningful engagement within the CYMG community.
  • Facilitate conversations and collaboration on CYMG platforms such as Slack, mailing lists, and constituency calls.
  • Lead initiatives to welcome and onboard new volunteers, ensuring they are connected to relevant working groups and projects.
  • Strengthen internal communication, highlight member contributions, and coordinate recognition initiatives.
  • Support communications campaigns by gathering stories, feedback, and ideas from members across the network.

This position is ideal for individuals who are community-oriented, proactive, and skilled in fostering inclusion and collaboration in diverse, global teams.

3. Community Engagement Officer

The Community Engagement Officer will assist the Community Engagement Lead in implementing engagement strategies and maintaining smooth communication across CYMG’s global membership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the management of CYMG communication channels, including Slack, mailing lists, and virtual calls.
  • Encourage active participation, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing among members.
  • Assist in onboarding new volunteers and connecting them to appropriate working groups or campaigns.
  • Collect and share stories, updates, and initiatives that highlight members’ contributions.
  • Offer feedback and innovative ideas to strengthen community engagement and internal coordination.

This position offers an opportunity to develop leadership and communication skills while contributing to a global youth environmental movement.

Commitment and Duration

  • A minimum time commitment of four (4) hours per week is expected. This may vary depending on the project or event schedule.
  • The mandate period is one year, starting upon selection on or before October 12, 2025.
  • All positions are voluntary and unpaid. These roles provide valuable opportunities for professional growth, networking, and contributing to international environmental processes.
