CHP: Illegal cannabis operation in Anderson uncovers bunker and firearms
January 22, 2026
ANDERSON, Calif. — CHP Northern Division officers arrested 40-year-old Michael Jay Kamfolt in Anderson on Tuesday for multiple firearm-related offenses after discovering an underground bunker filled with illegal weapons and ammunition following a month-long investigation.
The California Highway Patrol reported that Kamfolt’s arrest followed a tip received in December 2025, about an illegal marijuana farm operation on a property in Anderson. The CHP Northern Division Canine Unit secured a search warrant and conducted an aerial survey to confirm the details.
On Tuesday, January 20, the CHP Northern Division Warrant Service Team executed the search warrant at the property. They discovered a bunker accessible through a 100-foot-long culvert, equipped for marijuana farming. Officers seized 13 guns, including a sawed-off shotgun and three AR-15 style assault rifles, along with 10,000 rounds of ammunition.
“This operation went far beyond an illegal grow,” CHP Northern Division Chief John Pinoli said. “The combination of a hidden bunker and an alarming cache of illegal firearms and ammunition highlights the threat posed to public safety.”
CHP officials stated that Kamfolt was arrested on felony counts, including possession of an assault rifle, manufacturing a machine gun and possession of a stolen firearm. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives pursue further leads to uncover more about the underground operation.
