The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH)’s experts will be available for comment during the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) from 10 to 21 November 2025.
FIDH will follow and engage in negotiations at the intersection of human rights and climate justice to:
– Call for a full, time-bound and just phaseout of fossil fuels to prevent more human rights violations due to climate breakdown;
– Transition policies guided by human rights principles and bringing real justice – not false solutions that repeat the abuses and mistakes of the past;
– Monitoring the protection of environmental defenders as the voices driving real and ambitious climate solutions and defending rights for all, including in UN climate talks.
The following experts will be available for media queries until 31 October, and again from 10 November onward:
– Hugo Gabbero (French, English, Spanish) — Director of the Human Rights Defenders Desk. He is an expert on the protection of human rights defenders, including those defending the environment. He will follow negotiations linked to the reform of UN climate talks and just transition. In Belém 10-17 November, and online 17-21 November.
– Lucia Posteraro (English, Italian, French) — Climate Advocacy Consultant. She will follow negotiations on just transition, particularly the Just Transition Work Programme, and can comment on gender equality and climate issues. In Belém 10-17 November, and online 17-21 November.
