Couple denied IVF because partner uses prescription cannabis for Tourette’s
November 9, 2025
A couple has been refused NHS IVF funding because the boyfriend uses prescription cannabis to manage Tourette’s. Chloe Newton-Gould and Josh Samain, both 23 from West Sussex, were told they don’t meet eligibility rules requiring applicants to be non-smokers or vapers for six months. Chloe, who has PCOS, called the decision unfair as Josh’s cannabis is medically prescribed. NHS Sussex said it is working with the couple to explore all options under current policy.
