Amazon MGM Studios has officially granted a series order to the upcoming Creed spin-off TV show, Delphi, confirming its connection to the movies. The project will be executive produced by franchise star Michael B. Jordan, who is currently starring in Ryan Coogler’s acclaimed vampire period movie Sinners.

“The series that takes us back to where it all began,” Jordan said at the Amazon upfront presentation. “What I love about this story is that it stays true to what the Rocky and Creed franchise is all about: hard work, determination, fighting for something bigger than yourself. It’s about family, the ones we’re born into and the ones that we created. We’re building something special here, and I’m excited to introduce you to new fighters that will walk into the Delphi. As always, in Creed we say, one step, one round, one punch at a time.”

Delphi will center around young boxers who will be training at the Delphi Boxing Academy. In the film franchise, the said boxing gym was founded by Tony “Duke” Evers. It is where Apollo Creed trained for years. Now, it has also become his son Adonis Johnson’s home gym in the Creed movies.

The series will be executive produced by Marco Ramirez, who has also signed on as the showrunner. The project will be a part of Jordan’s overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios through his Outlier Society banner. Executive producers are Liz Raposo, Irwin Winkler, David Winkler, and Charles Winkler.

At the moment, Jordan is currently attached to star in another high-profile horror movie I Am Legend 2, which will see the return of Will Smith’s character from the 2007 post-apocalyptic thriller movie. Besides the upcoming show, Jordan is also developing the fourth installment to his boxing drama franchise Creed, which he will once again direct.
