Danville gives green light on cannabis lounge
March 7, 2025
DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — The Danville cannabis dispensary Seven Point will host the second cannabis lounge in Vermillion County.
On Tuesday, Danville City Council amended their cannabis dispensary ordinance to allow cannabis lounges. The amendment passed 9 to 5, and had received an outpouring of support at the City Council meetings.
Just under one year after opening their location in Danville, Co-Founder and CEO Brad Zerman said he is appreciative how many people support Seven Point and appealed to City Council.
“The community wants it. We had over 325 signed petitions from Danville residents.” Zerman says he hopes to open the lounge in April.
A cannabis lounge provides a safe, controlled environment for consumers to use cannabis responsibly. The amended ordinance has a requirement that separate Seven Point from it’s predecessors.
Patrons of Seven Point who wish to utilize the consumption lounge can only use product they purchase from Seven Point. No outside cannabis or cannabis-infused products are allowed on the premises. This ensures that the product is both safe and regulated for use.
If customers need additional equipment to smoke the cannabis — like bongs or pipes — Seven Point will provide sanitized equipment for no extra cost.
In establishing a cannabis lounge, Zerman hopes to create more of a communal aspect.
“Why does it have to be so secluded? Why can’t we come together and do community oriented activities and events, but also allow smoking? Just like you would allow drinking at a bar, or a nightclub, or a concert venue that serves beer or alcohol.” Zerman remarked.
In addition to serving safe products, Seven Point also creates a safe environment for cannabis consumption. All patrons’ IDs will be scanned upon entering the building; no patrons under 21 are allowed inside.
There is an armed security guarded stationed t the front entrance at all times, including when the lounge is open for use.
Additionally, Seven Point has collaborated with local law enforcement to get feedback. “The chief has been here and he gave some recommendations for us. He wanted us to get a metal detector, so we’re going to buy a metal detector and it’ll be in the lounge.” Zerman explained.
Zerman has big plans for the future, hoping to bring in a food truck, fun new events, educational opportunities, and live performances. “Especially in Danville — where there’s not a lot to do — we’re going to bring some fun events, we’ll have karaoke and trivia and Puff n’ Paint, and all sorts of fun stuff that will bring people from other communities to Danville to participate.”
Seven Point is anticipating an increase in business for Danville and the surrounding community, making City Council members like Jon Cooper support the amendment. “As of right now we’re using a couple businesses to the Tilton area. And I think if we [can] retain the tax dollars in our community, that’s a goal we should have.” Cooper explained. “The way the business community is right now, you’ve got to be pro-business. We’re helping these people out, or they might have not been able to stay.”
