EXCLUSIVE: Anti-war film Der Tiger (The Tank) has become the most-streamed original German movie on Prime Video.
Based on Amazon’s in-house seven-day figures, the film reached the top spot in 28 Prime Video countries, including Germany, the U.S. and the UK. Specific figures were not disclosed.
The film debuted on the Amazon streamer in 240 territories on January 2 as The Tank after a local theatrical run, which marked the first time a Prime Video Germany film had been released in cinemas. In December, we were first with the news of the release date, and had previous broken the story on the theatrical release.
The feature, set in the Eastern Front of World War II in 1943, follows a five-man crew of a Nazi Tiger tank that’s sent on a secret mission far behind the contested front line. As they go deeper into enemy territories, they have to face their own fears and demons, and stimulated by Wehrmacht methamphetamine, their mission increasingly becomes a journey into the heart of darkness.
