New Delhi: AAP has hit out at lieutenant governor VK Saxena on his 15-page letter in which he blamed Arvind Kejriwal’s govt for the air pollution mess. It said the “camera-obsessed LG, ignored by his own BJP govt, has resorted to ‘letter nautanki’ just to stay relevant in the media and is writing letters to the former CM instead of questioning present CM.” AAP asked when the LG would question the Rekha Gupta-led BJP govt on Delhi’s worsening pollution crisis. The party claimed that the “LG himself is the enemy of environment, having illegally ordered the felling of 1,648 trees in an eco-friendly zone near Chhatarpur.” AAP claimed that “while Delhi continues to choke under severe pollution, the LG chose leisure in Gujarat and appears to have lost sight of basic constitutional responsibility.” When AAP was in power, its govt regularly sparred with lieutenant governor Saxena, who was appointed in 2022 by the BJP-led central govt. The differences in opinion and action on both sides ranged from pollution to infrastructure, from general civic issues to govt appointments. AAP spokesperson Ghanendra Bhardwaj said that as long as Arvind Kejriwal was the chief minister, the only role played by LG VK Saxena was to obstruct govt work on a daily basis, criticise every initiative, and point out alleged shortcomings.”Today, when the people of Delhi and the country are questioning BJP’s Delhi govt and Rekha Gupta about what concrete steps they have taken in the last 10 months to reduce pollution, the entire Delhi govt stands in the dock. Yet, the LG has chosen to remain silent,” he said. From PM Modi to CM Rekha Gupta and LG Saxena, all BJP politicians are enemies of the environment, Bhardwaj said. “The LG should look within. There is no bigger enemy of pollution control and the environment than someone who illegally got 1,648 trees cut.” AAP leader Anurag Dhanda said BJP govt has failed to tackle the pollution crisis and was diverting attention by keeping the focus on a political blame game. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said people are shocked because of the silence of Kejriwal after LG’s letter. The allegations are serious, he said.
