Drax to acquire Bluefield Solar income fund in £561 million renewable energy deal
June 1, 2026
Drax has agreed to acquire Bluefield Solar Income Fund (BSIF) in a deal valued at approximately £561 million ($755.3 million), strengthening its renewable energy portfolio and expanding its presence in the UK’s clean power sector.
The acquisition will provide Drax with additional renewable generation assets, including wind farms and small-scale wind turbines, as the company continues to align its operations with Britain’s clean energy and decarbonisation goals, Reuters reported.
Under the terms of the agreement, BSIF shareholders will receive 92.574 pence per share in cash, along with an interim dividend of 2.25 pence per share. Including the permitted dividend, the transaction values the renewable energy investment company at about £561 million.
The deal marks another step in Drax’s strategy to increase its renewable generation capacity and strengthen its position in the low-carbon energy market.
By adding BSIF’s operating assets to its portfolio, Drax will gain immediate access to additional renewable power generation, supporting its long-term plans to expand clean energy production in the United Kingdom.
The acquisition also reflects a broader trend of consolidation within the renewable energy sector, where companies are increasingly seeking established operating assets to accelerate growth and meet rising demand for clean electricity.
Industry observers note that renewable energy portfolios with proven generation capacity continue to attract strong investor interest, particularly as governments pursue policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions and increasing the share of renewable energy in national power systems.
For Drax, the transaction not only expands its renewable footprint but also reinforces its role in supporting the UK’s transition to a lower-carbon energy future.
The agreement highlights continued investment activity in the renewable energy market as companies position themselves to benefit from long-term growth in clean power generation and ongoing policy support for decarbonisation.
