Driving a legacy forward: How Pollock and Amazon Relay are building a greener future in the Scottish Highlands

April 22, 2026

For nearly a century, Pollock has been part of Scotland’s transport story – a family business founded in 1935 that grew from humble beginnings into one of the country’s most iconic logistics names. From the rolling highlands to the heart of Inverness, Pollock’s trucks have long been a familiar sight on Scottish roads. But now, that enduring legacy has a new chapter – one powered by sustainability, technology, and a strong collaboration with Amazon Relay.

Today, led by Scott Pollock, the third generation of the family, the company is proving that tradition and innovation can move in tandem. “We’ve been around a long time,” Scott reflects. “Transporting goods across Scotland is something we take real pride in – and now, we’re doing it in a way that helps preserve the landscape we love.”

That landscape – the rugged beauty of the A9 route – is more than a setting; it’s part of Pollock’s identity. The company’s depot sits in Bathgate, just west of Edinburgh, where gleaming electric trucks now stand alongside heritage lorries bearing Pollock’s distinctive blue-and-red livery. It’s a visual blend of past and future – proof that a business rooted in history can also lead the charge toward net zero.

From family firm to sustainable pioneer

In 2021, Pollock joined Gregory Group, a move that strengthened its resources and opened new doors for innovation. The acquisition didn’t erase Pollock’s long-standing identity – as the Gregory team has often said, “business as usual” meant keeping Pollock’s name, look, and leadership intact. But the integration created something more: momentum toward cleaner transport.

“Joining Gregory gave us scale and strength to accelerate our sustainability efforts,” says Malcolm Wilde, Director at Gregory Group. “Our collaboration with Amazon Relay played a huge role in that transformation.”

Building a cleaner, stronger connection

Pollock’s Bathgate yard is now home to a growing number of EV trucks, serving routes as far north as Inverness. Each one contributes to Gregory Group’s ambitious sustainability goals across its UK network. The switch has already reduced emission, a milestone recognized when Pollock received the Amazon UK Sustainability Above and Beyond Award at the 2024 FastForward conference for its adoption of renewable fuels.

But for Pollock, sustainability isn’t just about emissions – it’s about biodiversity, water usage, EV vehicles, and importantly, legacy. As Scott describes it, “My grandfather started this business with a commitment to hard work and community, I think he’d be proud of how we’ve evolved while keeping those same values.”

A collaboration built for the future

For both Pollock and Amazon Relay, collaboration has been the key to progress. Amazon Relay’s focus on reducing transport emissions – from renewable fuel pilots to EV adoption programs – complements Pollock’s ambition. Amazon put Pollock in a position to benefit from government incentives and investment, allowing them to purchase EVs and develop the green infrastructure they needed. Together, they’re proving that sustainability can be more than a strategy; it can be a story of stewardship and shared purpose.

As Pollock’s electric fleet glides through the highlands, there’s a poetic symmetry: the same routes once driven by diesel are now changing to the hum of electricity. “We all feel a great sense of pride,” says Scott. “We’re doing our bit to keep Scotland’s natural beauty intact, one journey at a time.”

The collaboration between Pollock and Amazon Relay continues to drive meaningful change. Through Amazon’s goal to reach net-zero carbon across its operations by 2040, Pollock is equipped to carry its ninety-year legacy into a greener future – one electric mile at a time.
