Edwards Station EV charging a hot ticket as gas prices surge in Eagle County, across Colorado

March 26, 2026

With Colorado gas prices spiking upward due to the ongoing war in Iran and the state still aggressively incentivizing electric vehicles, Chris Dudar of Edwards Station wants to remind EV drivers his facility is one of the best places on Interstate 70 for travelers to get charged on a road trip or for locals to get juiced up for driving around the Eagle River Valley.

“This is a great place to stop, probably the nicest place between Denver and Grand Junction … and maybe you could even extend that almost all the way to Salt Lake City,” said Dudar, the chief operating officer of Edwards Station. “And that’s based on the fact we’re right here 50 feet off the interstate. We have 12 Tesla chargers. We have four Electrify America chargers.”

No matter what kind of EV you’re driving, Dudar said Edwards Station can hook you up.

“The Electrify America (chargers) are universal up to 350 kilowatts with the right car per hour. And Tesla is quietly making their chargers open to almost all the big brands now, (Mercedes) Benz, Hyundai, Ford, Rivian,” Dudar said. “And so not only do we have the universality of Electrify America, but basically Tesla as well, and the speeds are amazing.”

In just a little more time than it will take you to go the bathroom and get some coffee in the Edwards Station lounge, Dudar said you can get a full charge depending on your vehicle.

“Electrify America, now there’s some compatibility issues, but 350 KW, you can charge certain Hyundais and Porsches theoretically in 17 minutes,” Dudar said. “And we’re clean. We’re really clean. We’re safe. We have really nice lighting. You can get a meal. You can get great snacks. We have great coffee. We have a lounge area.”

And there’s a Wendy’s restaurant at the 24-hour facility, as well as both an automatic and manual car wash. Not to mention all the traditional gasoline products, which have surged up to 35% in Colorado since the start of the war that’s disrupting global petroleum, natural gas and fertilizer supplies. Those disruptions have motorists increasingly giving electric vehicles another look.

Despite federal EV subsidies ending under the Trump administration late last year, Colorado provides thousands in tax breaks and subsidies to people looking to buy new or used EVs.

The Vehicle Exchange Colorado (VXC) electric vehicle rebate program announced by the Colorado Energy Office late last year increased rebates from $6,000 to $9,000 for new EV purchases and leases and $4,000 to $6,000 for used EV purchases and leases.

“Even without the federal tax credit, which expired on Sept. 30 (of 2025), eligible Coloradans can still get up to $15,000 off the upfront cost of a new electric vehicle with state incentives alone,” according to a state press release.

“The technology is amazing; the cars get better every year,” Dudar said. “The current administration set us back a little bit, but things change if the market adopts it, and we’re an amazing place for the locals who want to charge, and we’re a great place for the traveler too.”

Dudar said that in states like Colorado, EV charging infrastructure is getting better by the year and slowly things are improving around the United States and the world as the tech improves.

“Globally, the cars are getting longer range and they’re putting in more chargers, so the range anxiety is going down, and that lifts all the boats,” Dudar said. “The more high-speed chargers they put in … there’s a lot of new Tesla Supercharger sites coming online, which just helps the whole market.”

Edwards Station is owned by East West Partners, a development company founded by Harry Frampton, who has built resort communities around the country, including much of nearby Beaver Creek.

“That’s a big part of the story. Our founder, Harry Frampton was an early adopter (of EV technology),” Dudar said. “I’ve been with the company a long time, and his thing was, ‘We’re a gas station. The cars are great. The technology is great. Don’t be a dinosaur. And let’s take this chance to make it a great locals place and a great interstate location.’”
