Electric vehicles now account for almost 28% of all new car registrations, as motorists respond to higher fuel prices and generous government incentives.

Lower-income households can receive grants of up to €5,700 towards the cost of a new electric vehicle, provided it meets environmental and pricing criteria.

The Renault 5 E-Tech has emerged as France’s best-selling electric car, while manufacturers say rising petrol and diesel costs have accelerated demand for battery-powered vehicles.
