RICHLAND, Wash. — The Tri-Cities will celebrate Earth Day this weekend with a hands-on electric-vehicle showcase that lets residents experience EVs firsthand.
The Electric Vehicle Showcase at The Reach Museum will allow people to see electric vehicles up close, speak with local owners, and take test drives. The event runs Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. as part of the Tri-Cities Earth Day celebration.
Organizers designed the showcase to provide the community with real-world insights into electric vehicle ownership while highlighting the environmental and cost benefits of switching from traditional gas-powered cars.
“People who come to this event will have a chance to talk to real EV owners and get honest answers from people who have had many years of experience driving and operating electric vehicles,” said Bruce Rathbone of the Mid-Columbia Electric Vehicle Association.
The event offers families a comprehensive Earth Day experience that goes beyond electric vehicles. Organizers have planned food, music, and activities throughout the day, making it accessible to visitors of all ages.
The showcase represents a growing trend of community-based education about sustainable transportation options. By connecting potential buyers with experienced owners, the event aims to address common questions and concerns about electric vehicle performance, charging infrastructure, and long-term costs.
Admission to the Earth Day celebration and Electric Vehicle Showcase is free. The Reach Museum provides an ideal setting for the event, offering both indoor and outdoor spaces for displays and activities.
The timing coincides with increased interest in electric vehicles across Washington state, where government incentives and expanding charging networks have made EVs more accessible to consumers. The hands-on approach allows attendees to move beyond online research and experience the technology directly.
For families considering an electric vehicle purchase, the showcase offers an opportunity to compare models and manufacturers in one location and to get unfiltered feedback from current owners on their daily driving, maintenance, and charging routines.
