Plans have been lodged for an energy park development near the Scotland-England border.

The West Scales scheme near Gretna would include four wind turbines, solar panels and a battery energy storage system (BESS).

It would be situated close to significant peat deposits – particularly at nearby Nutberry Moss.

Developers said it could – if approved – meet the energy needs of about 30,000 homes.

If it gets the all clear, the energy park would be up and running by 2029 at the earliest.

It would operate for up to 40 years after which the site would be restored.

Eurowind Energy said the development was needed to meet climate change and renewable energy targets and also to provide “greater energy security and to meet rising electricity demands”.

It added that it would also generate “significant economic and social benefits”.
