With Storm Herminia raging on this afternoon (Sunday), the Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the Isle of Wight coast.
The Environment Agency (EA) says tomorrow’s (Monday’s) tide will be higher than normal due to unsettled weather, with strong south-westerly Force 6 winds and large waves.
The total forecast tide is 3.84 metres Chart Datum at Cowes.
For one hour either side of high water, large waves will cause spray overtopping and over washing of defences across the exposed coast at Freshwater Bay, Sandown, Shanklin, Gurnard and Ryde.

This will flood esplanades, seafront car parks and roads in these locations.
However, as Cowes is sheltered from waves, the EA believes impacts, if any, will be minimal.
“We do not expect property flooding,” said a spokesperson for the EA.
“Monday evening’s tide at 22.12pm is forecast to be 30cm lower.
“No further flood impacts are expected.
“At high tide, avoid parking, walking or driving at exposed sea front locations.”
