Environment Canada issues yellow warning for blowing snow Calgary

December 26, 2025

Blowing snow and a temperature drop in Calgary and some surrounding areas has prompted a yellow warning from Environment Canada.

The warning was issued on Friday afternoon and warns of poor visibility and blowing snow. It is expected to last tonight and into Saturday. Conditions are expected to gradually improve Saturday afternoon.

The weather agency added that strong winds and falling temperatures would also lead to temperatures closer to -35 C, including wind chill for much of the day.

It warned against non-essential travel due to “near-zero visibility”, until conditions improve.

If driving is needed, the agency recommended turning on vehicle lights, slowing down and maintaining a safe following distance.

Calgarians can continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada here. To report severe weather, send an email to ABstorm@ec.gc.ca, call 1-800-239-0484 or post reports on X using #ABStorm.
