EXCLUSIVE: A live experince firm that has produced concerts for Top Gun: Maverick and David Attenborough’s Ocean has secured a £2.6M ($3.5M) investment.

Esk obtained the money via a funding round led by Maven Capital Partners and provided by the Maven Venture Capital Trusts along with the British Business Bank’s Investment Fund for Scotland.

The Scotland-based firm takes iconic IP from rightsholders such as Netflix, Paramount and BAFTA and produces live entertainment experiences. It also has a “proprietary media control system.” The firm launched four years ago and said it has delivered more than 550 shows.

Esk’s recent credits include Top Gun: Maverick – Live in Concert, the Attenborough-narrated Ocean In Concert, Netflix’s Life on Our Planet – In Concert’ and Quentin Blake’s Mrs Armitage On Wheels – Live On Stage.

Immersive and live experiences such as these have become more popular of late in the TV and film industry as rightsholders think outside the box in terms of picking up extra investment. Shows like The Traitors have recently gone immersive.

ESK boss Sam Weatherstone said: “We started Esk with a deep appreciation of live performance and immersive experiences, and a recognition that audiences have a huge appetite for in person, communal ways to enjoy the stories, creators and worlds they love – and to discover new ones. This investment from Maven and the British Business Bank is a massive vote of confidence in the company and our approach, and we look forward to building out our capabilities even further with their support.”
