Ethereum Foundation Hit With More High-Profile Resignations
May 18, 2026
The Ethereum Foundation (CRYPTO: $ETH) has been hit with another wave of high-profile departures amid growing signs of turmoil at the non-profit organization.
Two long-time Ethereum Foundation researchers submitted their resignations on May 18, with Carl Beek and Julian Ma announcing their departures.
These are the latest in a growing number of resignations in recent months at the Swiss-based foundation, which is dedicated to supporting the Ethereum ecosystem.

Tomasz K. Stańczak stepped down as co-executive director of The Ethereum Foundation in February, less than a year into the job. Josh Stark, another executive, resigned in March.
Carl Beek is best known for his contributions to Ethereum’s Beacon Chain, which supported the blockchain’s highly complex upgrade to proof-of-stake consensus in 2020.
Julian Ma made contributions to Ethereum’s mechanism design, crypto economics, and protocol scaling.
In addition to Stańczak and Stark, other high-profile leaders who left the Ethereum Foundation recently include Barnabé Monnot and Tim Beiko of the protocol team.
The wave of resignations comes after Péter Szilágyi announced he was leaving the organization last June after about a decade as long simmering tensions came to a boil.
The Ethereum Foundation has been struggling with community criticisms about the organization’s execution, scaling, and support for the ecosystem amid rising competition from other blockchains.
Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum’s co-founder, has also taken an increasingly visible role in communicating the future outlook for Ethereum.
The foundation has also been criticized for asking employees to sign a “loyalty pledge.”
Ethereum is currently trading just below $2,100 U.S.
