European business discusses nature-positive competitiveness

October 23, 2025

Today, the 2025 European Business and Nature Summit (EBNS) is uniting Europe’s business and financial sectors with a common goal: fostering profitable and sustainable business practices that work in harmony with nature.

Organised by the European Business & Biodiversity Platform and funded by the European Commission, and taking place over two days (23-24 Oct), the summit will gather innovative industries, financial institutions, and policymakers in Helsinki, in collaboration with Sitra, the Finnish Innovation Fund.

As we approach the halfway mark to 2030, there is an urgent need to intensify efforts to meet the Sustainable Development Goals and reverse nature loss. Despite new global challenges, restoring nature remains more important than ever, not just from an environmental perspective but also for our economy.

The EBNS will demonstrate how businesses can boost resilience and competitiveness by embracing nature.

Over the course of one and a half days, participants will identify critical steps for designing and implementing effective nature strategies. Pioneering businesses will showcase potential opportunities, while financial experts will discuss how to turn nature commitments into tangible investments.

This year’s summit will provide a platform for both high-level dialogues and practical discussions. By spotlighting market leaders and early adopters, the EBNS will further cement the EU’s leadership and commitment to the business and biodiversity movement.

It also sends a clear message to global partners that investing in nature makes business sense, as well as environmental sense.

Key themes of the EBNS include:-

  1. Business action: Exploring how to enable and accelerate credible transformation within businesses.
  2. Circular and bioeconomy: Leveraging circular solutions and the bioeconomy to advance a nature-positive agenda.
  3. Biodiversity finance: Accelerating the alignment of financial flows with biodiversity targets to support transformative business changes.

Speakers at the event will include:

  • Jessika Roswall, European Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience, and a Competitive Circular Economy
  • Sari Multala, Minister of Climate and the Environment of Finland
  • Eric Mamer, Director-General for Environment, Water Resilience, and a Competitive Circular Economy, European Commission
  • Several high-level speakers from businesses, NGOs, and the international community

Quote Commissioner Roswall:

“At a time of global instability and new security challenges, investing in nature and building resilience are essential for our future. It also makes strong business sense, as every euro invested can yield strong returns. So, restoring nature is good for our business, good for our societies, and good for our future.

The companies involved in the European Business and Nature Summit are leading the way. By focusing on the sustainable bioeconomy, nature restoration, regenerative agriculture and nature-based climate adaptation solutions, we can build prosperity while ensuring a resilient and healthy planet.”
