Facebook and Instagram go DOWN in major social media outage
March 25, 2025
A major social media outage has affected both Facebook and Instagram Tuesday morning.
According to Downdetector, thousands of users started reporting problems with Instagram around 9am ET.
Many Facebook users began reporting issues with the platform at that same time.
Instagram users said the issue is mainly affecting the comments section of their posts.
Users reported that even though their stories and pictures have comments, they weren’t able to view any of them.
‘I see comments, but when I click on them it says no comments, start the conversation. When I put comment it disappears,’ one user explained.
Downdetector also noted that there were issues with Facebook Messenger, Instacart, Indeed, and internet service provider Earthlink – all starting around the same time Tuesday.
The problems have affected users throughout the US, with Instagram users from the East Coast to the west all encountering the same problem Tuesday morning.
‘Comments on post are missing from Ohio anyone else?’ one person asked.
‘Here in NY – cant see comments on posts or reels!’ another Instagram user replied.
Others were also saying the problem was occurring in Utah as well.
On Facebook, users have started reporting that they can’t even log in to the platform.
‘I signed out a little while ago and it was fine. Now I’m getting an error message trying to sign back in!’ a Facebook user wrote.
‘Facebook error message on app when going to log in. Down in Washington state,’ one user explained.
‘Facebook is down in Houston,’ another person added.
So far, one third of the complaints Tuesday morning have involved logging in, while issues with the Facebook app and website have been plaguing those who were already logged in.
On Instagram, nearly 60 percent of the problems involve users’ comment sections and a third said the app is not working.
