The inaugural game already has a date and opponents. The NFL announced that the 2025 season will officially kick off with the clash between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys. But this did not make fans happy.

As expected, Jalen Hurts and his team will continue the tradition held since 2004, and will host the Cowboys, becoming the 20th champions to kick off an NFL regular season.

The Dallas Cowboys will travel to Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday, September 4 and will be looking to break the streak, as in the last three occasions in which they have faced each other, the Eagles have defended their home against them.

November 5, 2023 was the last time Prescott stepped on the Eagles’ home field. There, the Dallas quarterback finished the game with 374 yards and three touchdown passes, however they fell 28-23. Years later, with a healthy Dak Prescott, the Cowboys hope to turn things around. But the fans don’t feel the same way.

The truth is that Dallas did not perform well last season and fired its coach during the preseason.

Yes, Brian Schottenheimer has potential and Prescott is coming back from injury, but the Eagles’ claws are very sharp after winning the Super Bowl and they will not let themselves be defeated so easily. Cowboys, on the other hand, could be easy prey for the home team.

However, it must be recognized that Dallas has a large fan base and, in terms of ratings, the NFL would not have to worry about the numbers in the opening game.

In the announcement of the showdown on the league’s official X account, NFL fans were quick to show their displeasure with this matchup.

‘I speak for everyone when I say we didn’t want this’, ‘Tough start for the Cowboys’, ‘Super Bowl Champs vs a 7-10 team’, ‘Dallas Cowboys Eliminated’ were some of the comments from fans on the publication. Eagles fans, meanwhile, take it as an obvious victory in advance. What do you think will happen?
