First cannabis dispensary in Swansea set to open
September 19, 2025
SWANSEA, Mass. (WJAR) — A first is set to happen in Swansea soon as the first and only dispensary will open next month.
Ignited Culture is a recreational cannabis dispensary located off of Grand Army Highway.
“If you look at our logo you see a spark, an image of a spark ,” said Evan Dormandy the Director of Operations for Ignited Culture. “And it’s the embodiment of ignition to start something, to create something new.”
Although it’s new for the community, it’s not new for the state. According to the state’s Cannabis Control Commission, there are almost 400 dispensaries in Massachusetts.
Some people wonder as more stores continue to pop up, if it could lead to oversaturation.
“I don’t see it; they’ve been very conservative in their approach to give licenses and permits because it comes down to each town,” said Gabriel Ruz, the CEO of Ignited Culture. “The cannabis market is supposed to be $7 billion, and they’re approaching $2 billion, so there’s still a lot of runway left for Massachusetts to open up dispensaries.”
“There’s always an element of competition no matter where you are, but I think what sets up apart from a lot of dispensaries is we source a bunch of different products,” Dormandy said when reflecting on the high number of dispensaries in the state.
Ignited Culture will have a soft opening on Sunday open to its members, but will officially open to the public on Columbus Day weekend.
Then, it will be open 24/7 every day except for Christmas.
