First snowfall of the season expected to hit the GTA: Environment Canada

November 8, 2025

It’s time to install winter tires and dust off the toques as the Greater Toronto Area is expected to receive its first snowfall of the year on Sunday, according to Environment Canada.

Two to 10 centimeters of snow is expected throughout the day on Sunday, said Victoria Nurse, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.

“We are seeing lesser amounts of snow accumulation closer to Lake Ontario compared to areas further inland,” she said.

Nurse added that areas further inland, such as Vaughan, Markham and Brampton, could see as much as five centimeters of snow by Sunday afternoon.

Temperatures on Sunday are forecast for a high of 1 C and a low of -5 C at night, according to the national weather agency’s website.

Saturday’s evening forecast initially had predictions of possible snow, but Nurse says that likely won’t be the case due to drier, warmer conditions.

Monday might also see some flurries through the day, she said, with a low of -3 C in the evening.

She encouraged residents in the GTA to install winter tires if possible in the next few days.

“Motorists should expect difficult winter driving conditions on Sunday. This could contribute to increased traffic and transportation delays,” said Nurse.

Drivers are reminded to take extra space and time to react to changing driving conditions, said Sgt. Kerry Schmidt with the Ontario Provincial Police on social media.

“Winter is on its way. It’s coming whether we like it or not,” he said. “It could make for slower driving conditions and a little more challenging times if you’re going to be behind the wheel.”

Schmidt adds that in addition to winter tires, drivers should check washer fluid levels and get wheel fasteners retorqued ahead of the snowy season ahead.
