Ford Reveals Next-Gen F-150 Launch Update as Part of “Massive Portfolio Renewal”

April 16, 2026

Ford has revealed that by 2029, it will refresh 80% of its North American lineup, calling it a “massive portfolio renewal.” This will include the next-generation F-150, F-Series Super Duty, and Ford’s first vehicle based on the Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform.

The current 14th-generation Ford F-150 pickup truck is already 6 years old in the market, while the present-generation Super Duty is three years old, given its 2023 entry. Buyers will have to wait a little over two years to receive an upgraded F-150.

Chevrolet, meanwhile, will likely launch the next-generation Silverado 1500 pickup sometime this year, giving it a clear edge over Ford in the pickup truck segment. However, the delay could benefit buyers, as Ford is overhauling its product lineup and systems “to deliver one of the most intensive product, software, and services rollouts in Ford’s history.”

According to a statement by Ford, the new structure “integrates Ford’s Electric Vehicle, Digital and Design team with its global Industrial System, is a key lever in achieving the company’s Ford+ objectives, including its target of an 8% adjusted EBIT margin by 2029.”

Ford president and CEO Jim Farley spoke of a modern approach toward “software-defined vehicles” and “personalized ownership experience.” He said:

“This is the culmination of years of work and progress to create the modern Ford – a talented, unified organization capable of scaling high-quality, software-defined vehicles with a choice of propulsion, distinctive digital experiences and features, and a personalized ownership experience that improves over time.”

The overhaul will also see a big change in 70% of Ford’s global portfolio by volume.

Ford also stated that 90% of its “global nameplates” will offer electrified powertrains by 2030, which not only includes extended-range electric vehicles and fully electric vehicles but also advanced hybrids.

Another goal by 2030 is to have 90% of Ford vehicles by volume feature “updated electrical architectures, in-house developed user experiences and hardware, and next-generation over-the-air capabilities for continuous improvement in experiences and services.”

This lays the groundwork for the rollout of BlueCruise and the Ford Digital Experience, which pave the way for Level 3 autonomous driving that will be introduced in the future.

Ford further states that it has achieved significant milestones with its UEV platform:

“The UEV platform has already yielded breakthroughs such as high-efficiency motors that will improve future hybrids, and established the Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery engineering capability that now serves as the foundation for Ford’s stationary energy storage business, Ford Energy.”

The next-generation Ford F-150, then, will likely come in an entirely different avatar internally, loaded with advanced technology that will sport a high level of personalization and connectivity.
