Retired NFL player Richard Sherman said three armed intruders broke into his Seattle-area home and robbed the residence at gunpoint while his wife and two children were home.
Sherman, a former Seattle Seahawks star, posted video footage on X on March 31 of three men breaking into his home through a window.
“House being robbed at gun point with my family in it isn’t what anyone wants for a birthday gift,” he wrote in a post alongside two photos of the alleged intruders, one of whom appeared to be holding a handgun. “Scary situation that my Wife handled masterfully and kept my kids safe.”
Sherman, who turned 37 on March 30, asked for anyone who had any information to reach out to him.
Ashley Moss, Sherman’s wife, also posted about the incident on Instagram, thanking her followers who had checked in on her family.
“The kids and I are physically ok. Very shaken up and hope to find these people soon,” she wrote. “Waking up to instruders (sic) outside your bedroom with a gun is something no one should have to experience.”
Moss added, “Like I said they tried the wrong people! We WILL find you!”
Sherman and Moss share two young children, Rayden and Avery.
Authorities in King County, Washington, told NBC News they responded to a burglary on the evening of March 30, but couldn’t share more details because of an open and active investigation.
Officials did not confirm Sherman’s home was the site of the burglary.
Representatives for Sherman told NBC News the five-time Pro Bowler was declining interviews at this time.
Sherman is the latest athlete to be the victim of a home break-in. The homes of football players like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Joe Burrow were broken into last year.
Federal prosecutors in Florida announced earlier this year charges against seven men from Chile after they allegedly targeted the homes of sports stars, including Mahomes and Kelce, stealing millions of dollars’ worth of items.
Sherman, who won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks, now serves as an analyst for “Thursday Night Football.”
