Founders Fund Leads $2B Series E for Livestock Tech Startup Halter

According to a report from Yahoo Finance, the venture capital firm Founders Fund has led a funding round for Halter, a New Zealand-based agricultural technology company. The investment was part of a Series E financing round that valued the startup at two billion dollars.

Halter develops a system for managing cattle using solar-powered smart collars. The technology is designed to address the challenge of overseeing livestock across remote landscapes without relying on traditional methods like dogs or vehicles. The system incorporates a network of towers and a smartphone application, allowing farmers to establish virtual boundaries for their herds.

The collars emit audio and vibration signals to guide the animals, a process the company’s founder compares to parking sensor alerts in vehicles. The company reports that cattle typically learn to respond to these cues quickly. Beyond herding, the devices continuously gather data on individual animals, tracking health indicators and fertility patterns. The company is now testing a reproduction-focused product with customers in the United States.

Craig Piggott, the founder and chief executive of Halter, has a background in dairy farming and engineering. His prior experience at a rocket company influenced his decision to pursue a technology-driven venture in the agricultural sector. He established Halter at the age of 21.
