Four people have been arrested after three cannabis farms in Doncaster were shut down by police.

About £300,000 worth of drugs were seized following raids at addresses in Wheatley, Hyde Park and Cantley on Tuesday.

South Yorkshire Police said they found “significant and elaborate cannabis set-ups” in all three properties.

Three men and a woman were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences while the men were also held on suspicion of immigration offences, the force said.

Sgt Steve Roberts said cannabis farms posed “a huge risk to the safety of innocent people in our local communities.”

He added: “In order to generate enough light and warmth to grow cannabis, the electricity meters are often bypassed in these properties, which poses a significant fire risk to neighbouring properties.

“Following our intervention, we have since made these properties safe to ensure there is no longer a risk to neighbours.”
