FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) – Frankfort’s first medical cannabis dispensary opened this morning with customers lining up hours before nuEra cannabis unlocked its doors at 11 a.m.
The dispensary is the company’s tenth location and its first in Kentucky. The state now has four dispensaries.
Allen Price was first in line when nuEra cannabis opened in Frankfort. For Price, today means no more long drives to Michigan for medical cannabis. Price manages his PTSD and chronic pain with medical cannabis.
“There’s a lot of people that’s into pills and other ways of feeling better and just cannabis is the best way to go. It’s the most purest way,” Price said.
NuEra cannabis opened its doors for the first time in the Commonwealth this morning. The dispensary sells flowers and soon will offer gummies and vapes.
“Everything is absolutely locally grown in the state of Kentucky,” said Divina Capellupo of nuEra cannabis.
Governor Andy Beshear says since Kentucky’s medical cannabis law went into effect last year, more than 18,000 Kentuckians have been approved for medical cannabis cards.
Randell Cunningham was second in line. He broke his back three times. Last October, he shattered it. He can’t take traditional medicine for his pain and relies on dispensaries.
“It does relieve the pain. A lot. And I don’t have to walk around all messed up in the brain,” Cunningham said.
Capellupo has worked in the cannabis business for six years. She saw it help people with medical conditions.
“It’s been nice to sell a product and be behind a product and what we do,” Capellupo said.
At nuEra cannabis, the goal is simple.
“Let’s get it open let’s make sure we’re bringing the safest product out to the market,” Capellupo said.
The dispensary is located at 325 Leonard Wood Drive in Frankfort. NuEra cannabis said it will bring fifteen new jobs to the area.
