Free, unlimited energy wherever you go ― It’s more than just a solar panel

May 16, 2025

Who has ever thought about carrying a solar panel in their pocket? Well, it may seem like something from the distant future, but it has been possible since 2024. This new solar panel was designed mainly for people who travel, camp or work close to nature.

A solar panel with a different shape: We’re talking about origami

Yes, this new product is becoming more and more surprising. This pocket-sized solar panel results from years of research with NASA engineers. These scientists analyzed how to adopt the origami technique that the space agency itself thought of using for its space solar panels.

From this, the Sego Charger was “born”. By definition, we can say that it is a portable solar panel with a foldable design inspired by the Japanese art of origami, accompanied by a tripod, which allows the person to place it on any type of floor. However, the Sego Charger is much more than that.

Why origami? The science behind the Sego Charger

One thing we can guarantee is that this new solar panel is not just for aesthetics.

This foldable shape provides techniques for creating compact, resistant, and stable structures, while remaining light and flexible. In other words, they are ideal for space applications (even in medical devices). In this case, the foldable origami fits perfectly into the portable photovoltaic system.

There are 3 different power output levels to choose from

And that’s not all: The new solar panel can offer users different powers: from 50 watts, 100 watts, to over 400 watts, it all depends on the needs of the user.

It’s important to note that the Sego Charger was designed to withstand any weather conditions, since its coating is made of ETFE (a super-durable polymer). It is prepared to face strong gusts of wind and constant rain.

How to use this origami solar panel?

We must remember that Sego Charger was created with mobility, autonomy, and sustainability in mind; that is, its target audience ranges from outdoor enthusiasts (backpackers, hikers, climbers, etc.) to travellers and people who work remotely.

That’s why it’s very easy and quick to assemble (and it couldn’t be any other way). Let’s go step by step:

  1. First of all, open the solar panel: when you open it, you will see that the parts unfold into a flat shape, with all the solar cells exposed to capture light.
  2. Set up the tripod and adjust the angle according to the sun: remember what we said above that the tripod already comes with it? Well, just position it on the ground, table, or any other surface. This way, you will be able to adjust the angle with the sun.
  3. Connect your devices: The Sego Charger has a USB-C port, which allows you to connect a variety of devices, such as:
    • Smartphones
    • Power banks
    • Rechargeable flashlights
    • GPS devices
    • Bluetooth headphones or speakers
    • Tablets e notebooks

And that’s it! In just three steps, you’ll have your solar panel working and powering everything you want to charge.

This new tech is a way forward in renewable energy

Remember when we said that the Sego Charger goes far beyond its literal meaning of a portable solar panel? So, it should be seen as a symbol of versatility, since charging your devices without having to rely on a power outlet, without worrying about power outages, is something that changes the way we live today

These new energy sources are in line with the new way of thinking and living that many people are already adopting. It’s no wonder that new inventions like a wind turbine for the home that delivers unlimited and free energy are being created.
