Gorham marijuana grow center loses 280 plants in fire

GORHAM (WGME) – There was a fire at a cannabis grow center in Gorham Friday.

The fire started Friday afternoon at B’s Trees, a marijuana grow center in Gorham.

Gorham Fire Chief Ken Fickett says the fire started when a bulb from a high intensity light that provides sunlight to the plants malfunctioned.

The bulb dropped into a plastic container that the marijuana plants were growing in.

He says the fire was discovered by workers inside after a heat sensor went off.

Trucks from multiple towns were on scene, including Gorham, Westbrook, Windham, Buxton and Scarborough.

The chief says everyone who was inside is OK.

“We treated two people on scene,” Fickett said. “They tried to attack the fire and put it out, they almost got it all out, they knocked a lot of it down before the smoke got the best of them and they just bailed out, but they are OK, we treated them on scene and released them.”

The chief says the grow center lost 280 plants due to smoke and that the damage is minor.
