Group holds protest over proposed Amazon warehouse in Essex Junction

In Essex Junction, a group is protesting plans to build an Amazon distribution warehouse in the Saxon Hill neighborhood.Locally owned Phoenix Books is organizing the demonstration, with those in charge saying, “Although it has yet to pass an Act 250 review, the town’s Development Review Board is unable to reject any proposal which passes all the regulations, regardless of who the end user happens to be.”At a previous meeting, many neighbors raised concerns about the potential traffic impacts that the 106,000-square-foot facility would have on the community.Neighbors have raised concerns about environmental impacts, aging traffic infrastructure and the impacts it could have on the local economy.The Essex Development Review Board meets tonight at 6:30 p.m., where demonstrators said they plan to attend and continue to share their thoughts with the board.NBC5’s Alexis Crandall is in Essex Junction and will have more tonight at 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.
