Heartland drivers share the benefits of electric vehicles

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – With national gas prices on the rise, many Americans are considering the transition to electric vehicles.
According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of gas is $4.54. And according to Neocharge, the total cost to fully charge an EV is between $8.00 to $19.00. Another upside that many owners speak about is maintenance. Electric vehicles don`t require things like oil changes and radiator replacements.

Heartland EV owners said the benefits are too good to pass up.
“I’d say I usually only spend about $8 to $15ish to fill up, and it usually only takes 30 minutes,” Alexia Nigro said.
“I’d say the biggest help to me is just knowing that my expenses are going to be pretty consistent,” Roger Smith-Bergsrud said. “When gas was a lot, I used to do a round trip about six hours, and then it could fluctuate anywhere from spending 50 bucks to 70 bucks.”
“(I) just come out here and sit for 15 or 20 minutes, charge up, and then I have two or three days to last on that charge. And that’s it,” Jennifer Garder said.

For those who have or are considering the transition to electric, the United States Department of Energy provides a map of known charging stations for electric vehicles.
