Helping out the environment with 5th annual post-Christmas electronic recycling event

December 27, 2025

OWOSSO, Mich. (WILX) – On Saturday, residents had the opportunity to dispose of old electronics properly, thanks to the 5th annual post-Christmas electronic recycling day.

The event allowed people to bring old computers, gaming systems, laptops, and other electronics for free disposal.

Daniel Smith, who organized the event, said proper disposal protects people from data breaches and reduces landfill waste.

“If you take your old tech, you put it out to the curb, you expose yourself to data breaches,” said Smith. “Anybody who’s anybody can come along, grab your stuff, do whatever they want with it. There’s forensic software out there that’s free for people who don’t need to have that access, and through us, you know, you’re getting your data destroyed. That’s the strongest benefit, and the reduction of the landfill waste is the secondary.”

People who missed the event will need to wait until next year when organizers plan to hold it again.
