High school students facing charges, found with cannabis at Charles County schools

CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (7News) — Two students, one from Westlake High School and the other from La Plata High School, are facing charges for bringing cannabis onto school grounds.

According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, on March 18 cannabis was recovered from a Westlake High School student and the following day, March 19, it was found from a La Plata High School student.

A school administrator noticed the smell of cannabis coming from a backpack that the La Plata High School student had left on the school bus, which the bus driver had returned. Upon further investigation, a bag of cannabis was discovered in the backpack.

Both students are now facing charges for possession of cannabis and will face consequences per their school’s Code of Student Conduct.
