Hitachi Energy is installing over 2,400 solar panels at its new transformer factory in Vaa

November 26, 2025

Hitachi Energy is installing 2,414 solar panels on the roof of the up-building transformer factory at the Hitachi Energy Park in Vaasa region, Finland. The one megawatt-peak (MWp) solar power plant demonstrates the company’s commitment to carbon neutrality and a sustainable energy future.

Hitachi Energy Park is a 170 million-euro investment, a transformer production and energy technology center spanning over 40,000 sq m. in the Vaasa region, in Vikby, Mustasaari. When completed in 2027, the facility will double Hitachi Energy’s transformer production capacity in Finland and expand the product range to include larger transformers, supporting the clean energy transition, electrification, and Finland’s security of electricity supply. As part of the growth, Hitachi Energy will recruit approximately 200 new employees in the Vaasa region.

The solar power plant will produce 1.19 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually, which is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 66 electrically heated Finnish detached houses.1 The electricity generated by the panels will cover approximately 10 percent of the annual electricity usage at the Hitachi Energy Park, reducing the production’s carbon footprint by approximately 135 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
