Honolulu climate office secures $200,000 grant to boost resilience

January 22, 2026

The City and County of Honolulu’s Office of Climate Change, Sustainability and Resiliency announced it has been awarded a $200,000 grant via the Harold K. Castle Foundation.

Over the next two years, the funds will go towards enhancing coordination and communication between community groups and government agencies to advance climate resilience projects. The hope is that by bringing together residents, organizations, and government, the funding will help build long-term climate resilience.

“By preparing for the inevitable impacts of climate change, the City can take action to reduce risks and protect our communities,” said Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi in a news release. “This grant allows the City and the Castle Foundation to work together on locally driven solutions that improve environmental and community well-being.”

CCSR will use the grant as a catalyst for obtaining more funding to support climate adaptation. The city department will also manage community-led projects via the City’s Climate Champions program, which fosters local leadership, while implementing climate adaptation projects.

The launch of new projects funded by this grant is expected in 2026.
